I need help. 10 points. Difference between polarizing and Circular Polarizing Camera Filter.?
I have 2 used / refurbished Lens Filters I am going to sell. I need help identifying them. One is a Quantaray filter. Once it is on the camera, it can rotate without coming off. The original box has polarizer on it, but it may be a circular polarizing because it can rotate. It is 62 mm. It has a black tint to it. How much will this sell for?
The second filter I have is kenyo. It is a skylight (1B) 62 mm. I need some information on this. I do not know anything about it. Is it a Polarizing Filter? A UV filter? What? It is clear and does not rotate on the camera. How much will this sell for?
One more thing...do you think $175 is the best price for a Nikon Lens? Here is a link to it.

1) All polarizing filters rotate -- that's how they work. "Regular" polarizing filters were designed before the days of auto-focus, and will work just fine on older manual-focus systems. But anything that auto-focuses through the lens (almost all) requires a "Circular" polarizing filter. Regular ones confuse the auto-focus. Circular polarizers cost quite a bit more than regular ones, so if your polarizer was circular, they'd make a big deal out of it on the packaging, and likely on the Filter Ring as well. There is no predicting what it will sell for. If you're an eBay guy you can do a search.
2) For all practical purposes, a skylight does no filtering whatsoever. It's slightly pinkish, and in the old days was used to warm up a photo when the sky light was too blue (hence its name). This was a problem in the early slide films, but since the days of print film the photo printer can make stuff whatever they color they want anyway. It's usually used to protect the front surface of the lens from damage. They're not worth much for resale.
As I write this the link to the Nikon lens on eBay doesn't work, so I have no idea...
