Do you think there'll ever be a time when there are enough CCTV cameras in the UK?
Five years ago McCahill and Norris calculated there were 4.2 million CCTV cameras in the UK, one for every 14 people.
The number of cameras is always rising, with them being used in hospitals, schools, shops, taxis and by road and rail authorities.
Will CCTV systems keep filtering down into every village and hamlet until all the gaps between them are closed?
Good question Dream Police, there are so many in the UK that they will need to use software that can analyse all of them at once.

This can detect suspicious behaviour like loitering, defensive behaviour and pent up rage, objects that have been left in the area, or cars parked in sensitive areas. It also cuts down on the people needed to watch the cameras.
I believe the US is hoping to bring in similar software into airports by 2012, called 'Project Hostile'.
It's a helluva question, and there are some incredible answers. In England we are being bombarded by the "Human Rights" brigade - claiming that criminals have rights etc. Well they do. All humans have Human Rights - it's what separates us from the animals. That said, however, HONEST people deserve to have BETTER rights, eh? Or else why be honest?
Just a personal point of view, I don't buy that crap about 'If you don't break the Law than you've got nothing to worry about' - that's bullshit. And it doesn't give good enough reason for spying on decent, innocent civilians of the the general public. Cameras don't make me feel safe, nor secure.
This is a breach of the Human Rights of millions of people, every day, who don't commit crimes (Articles 11 & 12 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Those who do commit the crimes are really a tiny minority. It's not justified. Are there any people out there who think there could be a case to take the UK Government to the European Court of Human Rights? I know it sounds a bit zany, but one day it may be too late...
